I’m talking about a photo, but we’ll do a couple before I get to that one. 🙂
The other morning, there was mist on the water. I’m guessing that’s unusual this time of year, it stays so hot even through the night. We’re lucky to get down into the 70s the last couple weeks. This doesn’t quite capture it–you can see a little along the shoreline–but it was drifting across the top of the water like smoke, curling and dancing. Beautiful! Next time, I get video. 
The next three are birds. In the first, we revisit the Anhinga, which I think is an amazing bird. It is awesome in the water. It will dive off whatever, head first, completely submerge, then stick only it’s head and the first part of the neck out. Suki and I were walking the other evening and spied this fellow under a dock. Notice the peculiar angle of his neck?
I spied this gorgeous fellow on another walk. I’ve posted pics of him before, but he’s worth another look. Little Blue Heron, mature. Love that purple shade on his neck.
I saved the best for last. This is what it says about the bird on Wiki: An unusual bird of southern swamps and marshes, the Limpkin reaches the northern limits of its breeding range in Florida. There, it feeds almost exclusively on apple snails, which it extracts from their shells with its long bill. Its screaming cry is unmistakable and evocative.
Now I know why I’ve been finding empty shells on the grass parallel to the sidewalk next to the canal. 🙂 This bird has been eating them. I’ll have to keep an eye open; maybe I can get pics of him doing this. Cheerful-looking fellow, isn’t he?

I have not. This one was accompanied by a boat-tailed grackle. It was as if they were buddies, but I suspect the grackle was hanging around for leftover munchies. 🙂

I saw it up north, too, but usually only in spring or fall, when day to night temps were far enough apart to produce it.

Gorgeous photos as always. I especially love the Blue Heron. Maybe because I see them occasionally here in my part of the world too. I’ve become a bit obsessed with birds lately since moving as I’ve discovered there are a number of birds in this part of Canada that I’ve never seen before. I think I need to start taking my camera with me on outing more often. Although to be honest photography isn’t my strong suit. But I guess we all start somewhere, right? And practice makes perfect or at least better, hopefully. Have a wonderful weekend.

That’s LOUD. Heh. I’d just shut my windows; can’t hear anything then. Good windows. 🙂 When/if I hear this, I’ll know what’s making the noise, anyway.
Love the Little Blue Heron…..the color is beautiful, doesn’t look “real”. I wonder how close I could get to that color in a painting?

I keep waiting for it to show up again. The Little Blue Heron is here often. Love the rich color of its feathers. This may even be the juvenile I saw earlier this summer, now all grown up. 🙂

I’ve loved taking pics of birds for years. They are endlessly fascinating in their variety.
Love the photos! A couple of years ago, one of the hotels with a tropical themed pool area had some escapees, they were seen in the trees in our neighborhood. A blue heron, a white egret and one I didn’t recognize.
