A few days ago, I hopped in the car and drove along roads I’d never been on before. When I saw something that looked interesting, I pulled over, stopped, and got out with the camera.
The first thing I saw was a horse in a field.
On my way back to the car, I spotted this mockingbird perched on top of a tree. The morning sun turned him gold.
Farther down the road I saw this canal. Notice the egret flying toward me over the water?
I saw him again a few minutes later, returning to the lake. I had only seconds to get photos of it, and this one was outstanding. My best in-flight bird shot yet.
On the other side of the canal I saw a wood stork. My first sighting of one this year. Pretty sure it was trying to scratch a hard-to-reach itch.
On the way back to the main road, I spotted a sign announcing a community park, so I pulled in, parked, and walked to the water. A sign near the lake warned of ‘gators and snakes, but I saw neither that morning, which disappointed me. I’ll have to visit again sometime and hope for better luck.
I did see this magnificent stand of trees at water’s edge, however. I tried to ID them but had no luck.
A few minutes later, a limpkin appeared, hunting along the shore. I snapped a pic of it searching for snails in front of those trees.
See you next time.
