Salem

If you follow me on Facebook, you know I adopted a cat recently. After Suki’s death, I couldn’t think about getting another pet, but after months of being alone during the pandemic–not even visiting friends–I needed a companion.

I didn’t want another dog, though. Suki was perfect. I still can’t imagine “replacing” her with another canine.

So I thought about getting a cat. I’ve had them before and enjoyed them, so I kept my ears and eyes open. I eventually connected with someone on the local intranet, who was fostering a mother cat and her many kittens. She’d been a pregnant stray, was taken in by a local rescue group, then fostered at someone’s house.

Long story short, I decided to take the mother cat home, and now she lives with me. She’s between three and four years old and has been spayed, gotten shots, and was treated for parasites.

She’s a tortoiseshell, and she doesn’t mind being photographed, so I d0 it a lot. πŸ™‚ All these pictures were taken in the first two weeks I had her.

Sometimes her eyes look green or blue. It probably depends on the light.

These next two were taken as a set. When I’m at the desktop computer, she plants herself on top of the bookcase so she can keep an eye on me.

This photo was processed to bring out her eyes.Β

See you next time.

πŸ™‚ She’s not perfect either, which endears her to me even more. She broke one back leg while she was a stray, and it healed funny, but the vet said it shouldn’t cause her any problems. Doesn’t seem to. She jumps up on things all the time. I think she had some mouth problems, too. I took a pic of her last night that seemed to reveal missing teeth. Poor baby. She’s been through a lot.

I just love her. She’s so interesting in appearance. I’m anxious to hear more about her personality as she settles in.

Only yells at me when she thinks it’s time to eat. Has started figuring out I don’t want her walking on me and gives me space. She’s pushy about being petted, but senses when I’ve had enough, probably because I shove her away and say, “Enough.” πŸ˜‰ She’s started following me around. Previously, she maintained distance between us. She’s mostly respectful of my stuff, but occasionally she’ll sharpen her claws on something inappropriate, prompting me to take her to the scratching post. I think she’s figuring out that’s the only place acceptable for that behavior. She likes sleeping on a bed on top of the living room bookshelf. She loves watching the birds from the bed in the backroom, and she often sleeps there now, too. There’s also a place for her to look out the front window, but she hasn’t shown much interest in that spot yet.
