The Move, Part 2

I slept about five hours last night, but only because I took half a Benadryl. When I woke up at 4 a.m., I was up. Damn it.

I researched contract law in the hopes I could find a way to break the agreement, just in case, but I came up empty. I’d found a couple of other mobile homes within my price range that were moderately suitable but not nearly as good as the one I’d already bought.

One was in Winter Haven, a place R said I’d really like (Chain of Lakes) but a two-hour drive from where I am now. Visiting him would be a pain. The place was beautiful, and near a lake, but didn’t have central air. In Florida that is simply not acceptable. Humidity causes mold; it’s inevitable. The other place was in Sebring, which is just north of Lake Placid, across a busy street from Lake Jackson, which is huge. Not a totally bad location (according to the current owner, there’s a wonderful Mexican restaurant just down the street), but the place was old, really small, and probably needed a new fridge plus a good pressure wash and severe plant pruning outside. There was also no carport, and in Florida, you need one to protect your vehicle and keep it somewhat cool inside.

The park manager called me yesterday and said management would not bend on their requirement that the current owner replace the carport that was blown away by Irma. There’s one there already, on the other side, so they’re being obstinant for no good reason other than “but that’s the way it’s always been done.” Idiots.

This morning, the realtor spoke with the homeowner, who agreed to put up the carport this month, per the requirement of the contract. I will not believe it until it’s done, because he’s had well over a year to do so and hasn’t. However, I did threaten to take him to arbitration and make him do it, so perhaps he’s seen the light. 😉

Either way, I’m moving in. If the carport is up, so much the better. If it isn’t, steps will be taken, and I will win in the end, no matter how nasty it gets, because I’m right. He knows it, and so do I.

Good for you, although I hope it will all work out smoothly without the need for arbitration and/or other measures. My fingers and various other limbs are firmly crossed for a smooth move.
