Friday Photos: Mostly Birds

On the computer, I have “working” directories, where I dump downloads for later processing. While sorting and moving to permanent directories, I came across a few pics I’d overlooked or saved for later.

This one was taken way back in May, when ducklings were showing up at the canal. The parents were nearby; I snapped this through the fence that separates the condos from the park. They knew I was there, which is probably why they bunched up like this. After taking a few fast shots, I crept away. I try never to disturb wildlife. ducklings-5-31-16-sm

Early in the year, a boat floated down the canal and someone sprayed poison on the opposite bank. My guess is it was meant to kill the grass along the waterline, to keep it from creeping deeper across the canal. That grass is still yellow. 😦 But it doesn’t seem to have harmed the wildlife much, if at all.

Here’s a young ibis, searching for something to eat. young-ibis-9-12-16-sm

And this is a tricolor heron, hunting for frogs or fish. I happened upon him at sunset, so the yellow was particularly strong. tricolor-hunting-10-1-16-sm

Snapped this bird singing in a tree as I passed beneath it. The chest feathers look scraggly; I wonder if he was attacked by something? Or maybe he just misjudged a branch and flew right into it. If so, lucky he wasn’t killed!singing-bird-11-16-sm

Suki and I found a new road to take walks on last week. There are no houses on it, and the woods press close on either side. It also leads straight to a canal, and we can walk along there, too. monroe-street-11-19-16-sm

And this was the view on the other side. I love that tree. Great branches!monroe-st-other-side-11-19-16-sm

Notice the bit of purple in the previous photo? That’s American Beautyberry. It grows wild everywhere here, adding vibrant color to a green landscape.  http://www.south-florida-plant-guide.com/american-beautyberry.htmlpurple-berries-11-19-16-sm

Wrapping up the blog today with Suki. This photo was taken in May, 2008, in Wisconsin. suki-in-the-grass-5-08-sm

Gorgeous pics. I’m missing green already. Not a good sign.

I love the tree, and the way the pink pops in the berry shot! Suki looks like a little lion with her fur all puffed out, so cute!

She has her winter coat right now. In a few weeks, she’ll start shedding like mad. Oooh, I don’t like that. Little puffs of her fur are everywhere at that time. 😉 But she does get brushed more often.

The birds are fantastic and they’re not an easy target for photography. Suki looks absolutely adorable!
