Friday Photos: Flame Vine and more

The flame vine adds vibrant color to our green landscape in winter and early spring. The flowers are quite large. None of these photos had saturation boosted; this color is straight out of the camera.Flame Vine flower 3.11.16 sm

They make great cover for fences. This vine grows fast and there has to be a lot of space between the plants. Flame Vine 3.11.16 sm

They also climb into trees, where they glow against our blue skies. Flame Vine clusters 3.11.16 sm

I was at R’s the other evening, at sunset. There were clouds, but the light poked through a hole and lit up the island. The birds sitting at the top are vultures. They gather there every evening. Island Sunset 3.12.16 sm

An as yet unidentified bird in R’s dead orange tree, same sunset. The tree just got old. R has plans to replace it.Unknown Bird 3.16.16 sm

The moorhen is around again. He was in the canal, not at R’s. I love that red and yellow beak! It’s so smooth, it almost looks like plastic. Moorhen 3.3.16 sm

Also in the canal were turtles, sunning themselves on the rocks. Turtles 3.11.16 sm

Suki lying on the bed, looking pensive, legs crossed. Had to take this one with the flash. Suki on the bed 3.11.16 sm

Fabulous pictures, as always. But, although I’m intrigued and mesmerized by all the flora and fauna where you live, Suki has to be my favourite 🙂

  2. Yvonne says:

Lovely pics, always a treat. Can’t complain though as it has been sunny here for several days now. And it’s the start of a two week holiday for me and the kids:-)

  3. Allison says:

I’m impressed Suki didn’t blink or squint!

I like the turtles, just for something different.

    Have a good weekend!

Those orange blooms are breathtaking! And please always end with Suki. ❤ her!

    • She’s a sweetie… except the last couple of weeks, when she’s shedding really bad. I cannot get the hair off the bed stuff. I wake up with it stuck to my mouth. It’s the only thing I don’t like: the shedding. Otherwise, she’s the best!

Love the flame vine photos, esp. the vertical one of it climbing the tree — very well done! Because of the angle and the color of the late afternoon light, the bird ID is harder, but I suspect it’s a mockingbird based on beak shape, eye, and length of tail. The detail in the photo is superb — including the little “whisker” feathers below its beak!
