MN is 12th State to Legalize Marriage Equality

Tonight, I am proud to be a Minnesotan. After the Senate passed the bill, rainbow flags went up on the bridge nearest me. They’ll be there all week.

Tonight, the governor signed the bill as he said he would. Thank you, Mark Dayton. Always knew you were one of the good guys.

I hear a HUGE party is happening at the capitol as people celebrate. I despise crowds, so I took a pass, but I’m jumping up and down about it. This is a first, very important step toward equal rights for ALL.

How was it possible all these years to treat some humans as less equal than others? To relegate them to second-class status–or worse–because of their sexual orientation? Because of the color of their skin? Because they were women?

Ever stop to think how things would be different if females ruled the world instead of rich white men? Or how about if gay people ran the world? Don’t laugh. A very few rich white men are calling the shots right now. It’s not completely impossible for gay people to work into positions of power and do the same.

Congratulations, MN. You’re on the right side of history.

It’s wonderful news! Congratulations to everyone in your state! Mine will be one of the last, unfortunately. It wasn’t long ago–only ten years–that 12 PA state legislators sued a couple for trying to get married because they were two men (the couple knew they couldn’t get married here–it was a symbolic act). The good news is that I think change is happening faster than I ever thought it would. The bad news is that PA hasn’t changed enough–yet.

    • About six months ago, an influential group got on the ballot an amendment that would have forever made it illegal for gays/lesbians to marry in MN. The voters trounced that sucker! And now here we are… 🙂

That is fantastic, I know as a Canadian we are fortunate in this regard because our federal government resolved the issue for the whole country, but it still makes me want to stand up and cheer whenever another country or state is added to the list. As the parent of a transgendered child who has been in a committed relationship for nearly a decade now I can officially attest to the fact that gender has nothing to do with love and commitment and as the child of a hetro couple who should never have married, let alone had children it’s time the world realized this.
I think the rich white men need to go sailing on their yachts and let the women & LGBTQ community run the world with some input from the children (because sometimes it takes the eyes of a child to see things clearly).

    • What we need is more empathy. That trait seems to be severely lacking lately. When did we lose our ability to see things from another’s point of view? Why must everyone be exactly as we are, live as we do? What a boring world that would be.
