What Wouldn’t You Give to Live Here?

Sunday, I spent the entire afternoon in Red Wing, a touristy town along the Mississippi. Lots of brick buildings and terrific shops. The St James Hotel is known for it’s elegant, albeit small rooms… and their ghosts. Yup, the place is haunted. An employee told me. The offices are in the “basement,” which are dug right out of the rock and feature winding halls and odd angles.

This fountain is in the heart of downtown. The water flows out the bottom on the left, under a sidewalk, and down a flight of stairs. Then it travels under another sidewalk before emerging on the other side to flow down another set of stairs into the shallow square pool beyond. It’s marvelous architecture.

There are two statues decorating this area, and both are eye-catching.

The boy and his dog are on the far side of the shallow pond at the bottom of the staircase waterfall. The girl resides to the left of the fountain and sitting area, next to the sidewalk. I think they’re wonderful!

In my new book being released 9/1, Three of Swords, Gray and Cooper live on a houseboat at a marina set in Red Wing. As the series progresses, they will introduce you to more of this beautiful river city and I will post photos that will help bring this place to life for you.
