I was notified last night that I got the editing job with the online publisher. This news made me very happy, because it means I can work at home in my underwear and not spend a lot of money on gas, and when winter comes around again, as it always does, I won’t have to go out unless I want to.
I can wake up late, stay up late, get up and work in the middle of the night, take off on a jaunt in the afternoon, schedule dentists and doctors whenever I like. Eat when I’m hungry, sleep when I’m tired.
You can’t put a price on this kind of freedom.
I could only accept the job because I’m getting my apartment in exchange for being property manager. The pay ain’t great, but the job will be interesting and teach me a lot. I’m always willing to learn.
They said they liked my sense of humor. Heh. I told them in comments: “this editor is committing hara kiri with a quill” (because the writing in the test piece was so atrocious). They did that on purpose, of course, and it was an excellent job of worst writing ever.
They’re sending along the usual papers in the next few days, and I hope to get started soon.
Yesterday, while sitting at the computer, I swung around in the chair to look out the window and spotted this robin in a tree on the boulevard. He was facing me, so I grabbed the camera and took a couple of shots. Through dirty glass, no less, and at full zoom. Came out pretty well, considering.
