JJ looked at the boxes scattered across the living room and frowned. “Packing, huh?”
“Gotta, babe.” Noticing the look on his face, I quickly amended, “But just the books and DVDs. The rest can wait until I’m halfway out the door.”
He went into the kitchen, banged around some, and came back with a couple beers. Handing me one, he sat on the couch and watched me put books in a box. “Take some of the furniture. I put mine in storage when I moved in and I can use it after…you know.”
I nodded and ducked my head. This was too fucking hard. He was the main reason why I was suffering headaches and stomach aches about leaving.
The economy is so bad, he might not be able to find a job in the Twin Cities. What then? Long distance relationships worked for a while but not indefinitely.
I didn’t want to think about it, not now. One thing at a time, or I’d go nuts.
He didn’t stay on the couch for long. After a few minutes, he got down beside me and helped. When our hands touched at one point, we smiled at each other.
