Ever try to choose just six sentences from a WIP that might intrigue someone into wanting to read more? Try it. Pain in the butt!
This is from Bartholomew’s Cave. Constantine is the narrator; he’s been sent to the local wizard, Bartholomew, to learn some things. Damien was the former apprentice, now turned into a parrot; he had a few choice things to say about the sorcerer. Con is entering the magician’s cave.
Made nervous by Damien’s words, I shouldered my pack with trepidation and stepped into the entrance. I’d been correct; there was an opening in the back wall that led to the right. Leaning into it, I saw the narrow passage was broken by another opening on the left, which glowed with light.
Taking a breath, I called again, “Hello?”
The voice that answered was deep and rough. “Come in then. I’m in the mood to eat something, and you’re just in time.”
And just because I feel like it, here’s something pretty to look at.
